Children & Youth
At Forest Hills Presbyterian, we offer Sunday school classes for children and young adults at 9:15 a.m. in the classrooms located in the U-shaped building behind the chapel. All of our teachers and volunteers have completed our Child Protection Policy training course and a background check. Most of our teachers are current or retired educators from Hillsborough County schools. Our classes offer age-appropriate Bible lessons and are designed to help our children learn about God and how to put their faith into practice in daily life.
6-12 – Middle and high school students meet in room 4 with Barbara Lien and Kelli Rivera to delve deeper into what it means to be a Christian in today’s society.
We offer a nursery for infants and children through age 4 located in the church offices behind the sanctuary. Our nursery is open from 9-11:45 a.m. on Sundays and 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. The nursery is staffed by Marilla Bottomley, a registered nurse, and volunteers. Betty Mullis, our nursery coordinator, teaches lessons using the Wee Children at church curriculum during the worship hour. Both Marilla and Betty are trained in CPR.
We have a family room available on the second-floor balcony of the sanctuary for parents who prefer to keep their infants or young children with them during the worship service. This enclosed room is equipped with a playpen and allows parents to see and hear the service while their little ones move about.
Children’s church is available for children kindergarten through 5th grade. Children are escorted from worship to Larrick Hall for age-appropriate Bible lessons, games and crafts. Fun, faith and friendship is nurtured here! Children’s church is coordinated by Karen Zinszer and a team of dedicated volunteers.
Youth group for kids in grades 6-12 is held Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in our youth room, located between our chapel and craft cottage. New Direction Youth Ministries exists to honor God by introducing students to Jesus Christ, connecting them with other Christians, and teaching them to love God and others, to grow in Christ and community, and to reach their neighbors and the nations. At youth group, teens worship, play games and learn about God using Bible-based lessons. They also develop friendships and grow in faith as they participate in special events such as Night of Joy, Rock the Universe, beach trips, sleep overs, volunteering and attending summer camps at Montreat, NC and Cedarkirk in Lithia, FL.
You can view the “Youth and College Calendar” here.
Our middle and high school youth perform Christian skits and dramas, some of which they have written themselves. Led by Laura Lewicki, the youth learn public speaking, acting, stage design and creative writing. Their performances have been featured at church events, luncheons and worship services.
